The Primor Rochet Melon (Cucumis melo) is a herbaceous plant with sprawling stems, cultivated for its large, delectable fruits highly sought after during the summer due to their high water content and sweet flavor.

This plant features soft, hairy stems that grow prostrate along the ground, producing bright yellow flowers that come in male, female, and hermaphroditic forms.

This species is extraordinarily polymorphic in terms of fruit type and pulp color.

The fruit's color ranges from white to dark green, including shades of yellow, and can be characterized as Spanish Piel de Sapo, showcasing unique markings.

Fruit shapes may vary from spherical to oval, and sizes can range depending on the variety, with smaller melons weighing around 400 grams and larger varieties reaching up to 10 kg.

General cultivation tips for the melons include sowing from January to May, depending on the desired cycle and cultivation area.

Seeds can be sown directly in soil or in trays for later transplantation.

It is crucial to select healthy, well-drained parcels and avoid repeating melon cultivation in the same location for at least three years.

Drip irrigation is recommended for achieving higher yield and faster growth, with adequate attention to common phytosanitary issues such as powdery mildew, spider mites, and Fusarium.

Harvesting typically begins in June for the earliest regions.

More sweetness can be achieved by choosing deep soils with minimal need for irrigation.

Although melons have a relatively short shelf life, some varieties, like Tendral, can be stored longer.
