The Rio Grande Tomato is a perennial herbaceous plant widely cultivated as an annual, renowned for its sweet and juicy fruits.

The early-bearing varieties typically reach a length of 1.2 meters, while late-bearers can grow up to 2.5 meters tall.

The fruit is a berry, and while wild tomato species produce bilocular fruits, cultivated varieties can be bilocular or 30-locular, with 5 to 9 locules being the most common.

This packet of seeds is ideal for gardeners looking to grow their own tomatoes.

General growing tips include:

  • Preferring fertile, fresh, humus-rich, loose, permeable, and deep soils.
  • Being a tropical plant thriving well in Mediterranean climates for year-round harvesting.
  • Sowing should occur in seed trays from January to April, followed by transplanting when plants reach 15 cm in height and spaced 40-70 cm apart.
  • Watering immediately after transplanting and subsequently every 20-25 days, especially during the fruit-setting phase.

The Rio Grande variety is primarily intended for making conserves, although it can also be enjoyed fresh.

It bears elongated, cylindrical fruits that are firm with excellent taste.

This seed packet supports sustainable gardening practices and ensures fruitful harvests.
